Penrose's arrows and kites
A non-periodic tessellation: there are no translations which send the figure in itself. Moreover, the two tiles (the arrow and the kite, both provided with markings that prevent some combinations, as, for example, a rhombus made of two tiles) are an aperiodic set, which means that ALL the tessellation made with these tiles are not periodic. The image has been used in the book “Il ritmo delle forme”.
