A rosette
One of the fifteen rosettes in the horizontal row lying in the middle of the façade of S. Maria Novella, in Florence.
You can see an other one; or you can see a drawing of the same rosette.
The symmetry type of this rosette is quite interesting: in the centre, it has a dihedral symmetry type D5, while in the exterior part we note a dihedral symmetry type D8. As G.C.D.(5,8)=1, on the whole we just have a dyhedral D1 symmetry type.
