A chessboard
Go, a complex game of war and strategy of Chenese origin, it is very popular also in Korea and Japan, where you can even find schools of Go. It reproduces more modern wars than the game of chess.
The chessboard without pieces has dihedral symmetry of type D4; the pieces naturally break the symmetry.
